RAPPAHANNOCK
and RAPIDAN RIVERS
Water level of 5.0 AND ABOVE at the Remington Gauge on the Rappahannock As per USGS levels over 5.0 are unsafe for boating or recreation. Water level of 5.0 AND ABOVE at the Culpeper Gauge on the Rapidan River As per USGS levels over 5.0 are unsafe for boating or recreation. Water level
of 3.3 and below cancel trips from Remington down At this level (2.9 and below) you will find our 7 mile Blankenbaker Trip to be a delight. WARNING: Determine
weather the above water levels are RISING OR FALLING before you
leave home. Obviously, if the Remington gauge is at 5.3 and rising DON'T
GO ON THE RIVER. REMEMBER: These two rivers flow together some 15 miles down river from the gauges. It is not unusual for one river to be high & unsafe and the other well within the safe zone. Therefore if your trip is scheduled to pass thru the confluence of the two rivers, APPROACH WITH CAUTION OR DON'T GO ON THE RIVER, or call me and lets talk about it. FOR WATER LEVELS: CLICK

FISHING
LICENSES
Virginia Game wardens are checking for fishing licenses, as well as other violations, varying from being drunk in public to being “over your limit for bass”. The limit is 5 fish with no size restriction. The wardens are using zodiac rafts with jet engines and are able to negotiate rapids without difficulty. The cost for a 5 day out-of-state permit is $15 and in-state is $10.
