EXTRA SUGGESTIONS
FOR A FUN AND SAFE TRIP
PLAN FOR A CAPSIZE
A. Dry boxes may be rented from Clore Bros. for $25.00
B. Double bag all clothes, especially your sleeping bag
C. Coolers should have a sturdy lock
D. Everything should be packed in a canoe as compact as possible and
tied. Overloaded canoes cause turn-overs
WHAT TO DO IF YOU CAPSIZE
A. Immediately position
yourself upstream of the canoe
B. Hold onto your paddle and stay with the canoe
C. Keep your feet up and headed downstream "Go with the flow"
D. STAY WITH YOUR GROUP. There are numerous islands and therefore forks
in the river. Separation can cause anxious moments, especially if the
other boat has all of the "food"
BAILERS Be sure your bailers
are tied on a line (clorox bottles make good ones)
KEEP YOUR PERSONAL FLOATATION DEVICE ON
Especially while negotiating rapids and when water level is up
PLAN FOR HIGH WATER Place a marker at the waters edge when camping overnight
(your water gauge). Never go back on the river during fast rising water.
Stay put, we will find you!
WHEN YOU STOP TO CAMP take your canoes to high ground and tie to a tree
CAMP ON HIGH GROUND Never camp on islands during the rainy season or
when rain is expected.
SWIM CALL IS GREAT, but DIVING IS A NO! NO!
ABOUT CAR KEYS- leave them with us or hide them somewhere on the outside
of your car. Whatever you do, don't take them o9n the river. They seem
to be the one thing that people lose most often.
RECYCLING
Please sort your trash. At the end of your trip, we will provide separate
containers for glass (that you shouldn't have taken on the river) aluminum
and misc. trash. We at Clore Bros. Are very serious about the environment
and wish to do everything possible to make sure that we dispose of trash
responsibly. Please make this task easier for us by being responsible
for separating your own trash.
